Abstract
The applications of smart structures can solve the problem that external loads and environmental conditions could cause the large displacement and high stress in the structure. This paper proposed a type of smart concrete structure, in which the shape memory alloy(SMA) external tendons producing recovery force due to phase reverse transformation were placed in the concrete frame. Experimental work on smart repairment of a seismic-damaged precast concrete frame with SMA tendons was carried out. Test results showed that SMA could effectively control the deformation and the crack of the seismic-damaged frame. The maximum values of the displacement recovery and the crack closure were 18.9mm and 3mm, respectively.
