  • Abstract
A catastrophe progression method based on catastrophe theory is proposed in the paper in order to overcome limitations of existing evaluation measures and it is applied to the decision-making of the planning alternatives for through highways. The multi-layer assessment objects are analyzed in the method firstly and then the quantification of bottom assessment indicators is performed. The ultimate catastrophe function is obtained through quantitative computing by the normalization formula of different catastrophe models, and thus the comprehensive assessment of alternative is realized. The result of an evaluation example indicates that the presented method can not only avoid the subjective quantification of assessing indicators, but also be easy to perform and obtain high reliability.
