Abstract
In countries, such as Italy, characterised by the intensive use of land for various purposes (industrial, agricultural, residential), the construction of overhead lines is increasingly constrained due to the growing awareness of the population towards environmental issues and the passing of special laws for the safeguard of environmental assets. The current community approach in the field of environmental protection calls for the adoption of technical planning and decision-making processes that make it possible to assess the impact of works and constructions on the environment in advance, during the study and design phase. In order to meet these needs, ENEL is experimenting new advanced solutions to make overhead lines more compact that have been developed in relation to the actual application on the field. One of these solutions, used for the reconstruction of a line in the outskirts of Rome, is described. The solution is based on the use of poles and bored pile foundations
