  • Abstract
    The use of controlled environments called “cleanrooms” is dramatically increasing in many industries. The need to reduce contamination to products during development and production has magnified the need for cleanroom environments. The microelectronics industry has recently been the largest user of cleanrooms. However, other industries such as biotechnology, pharmaceutical, aerospace, automotive and food are emerging as significant users of cleanrooms. There has been a need to develop industry standards for the proper design of cleanrooms due to the continued growth of these environments. While standards have begun to address the requirements for materials and mechanical systems, there has been an absence of information on the proper design of electrical systems for cleanrooms. This presentation briefly discusses the purpose, scope, goals, and topics to be addressed by the new recommended practice
