Abstract
Demand Response (DR) in an electricity market means the change in the customer´s normal consumption pattern in response to changing electricity price over time. More over it minimizes the need to build new lines and network expansions by efficient usage of current capacity of distribution system infrastructure. This paper evaluates the successful practice of DR programs in the US electricity market; its striking features and benefits. The theory behind relating temperature conditions and load data to determine when a DR program could be adopted. Thereupon the ideology of this paper is to propose an effective way to implement such a worthy notion in the regulated Indian electricity market. Espousing this idea, could bring in a vital improvement against load shedding practice adopted currently to reduce excessive power in a populous and heavy power demanding country like India.
