    Summary form only given, as follows. An interpretation of the counter-propagation network (CPN) proposed by Hecht-Nielsen is given in terms of a simple neural network which is based on a simple cluster-seeking algorithm. This interpretation made some of the desirable features in CPN more transparent. Some generalizations of the model are also given.<>
