Abstract
The shadow observation results of slow streamer inception and development in deionized water are presented. The propagation features of two different types of positive slow streamers are observed. The first is usual for water and hydrocarbon liquids. The other starts from near the electrode and can transform into a tree-like streamer due to a larger gas content which originates from the electrode. Evidence for the gaseous nature of the slow streamers is presented. Comparison of the observation data with Rayleigh and Watson models suggests the involvement of microbubbles in the first type of positive and the negative streamers
