  • Abstract
Finite element analysis of masonry structures has always been a difficulty. Blocks and mortar are often assumed to be the same material in traditional finite element models, which are easy to be established and calculated but can not simulate the actual structures well. In the paper, the engineering simulation software, Ansys, is used to establish the discrete models of brick walls strengthened by CFRP. In this model, contact elements are used to simulate the property of mortar, which are completely different with the plane elements used to simulate bricks. Compared with the results of previous experimental study, the load, deformation and stress distribution of the walls are studied through finite element calculations. The study indicates that the model presented in the paper can simulate the actual masonry structure well and CFRP used to strengthen brick walls can improve the mechanical performance of the walls effectively.
