Abstract
The impact of water coolant irradiation on ITER design is analysed. High energy 16N-decay photons and 17N-decay neutrons in outlet water coolant requires increased shielding around coolant system components even outside the biological shield. The potential use of activated water as a plasma diagnostic is suggested
