Abstract
The author argues that with current technology one cannot build the software that the market demands. Current approaches result in too little functionality and too many errors. Significant commercial experience now exists using object-oriented programming. He does an economic analysis of the use of object-oriented programming and concludes that it provides the technical key to higher productivity and quality.<>
