Abstract
The utilization of diversity in radar systems has shown improvements over conventional phased array radars in many aspects of the system performance including target detection probability, number of targets, and beam-pattern. We present here the application of the MUSIC algorithm to MIMO radar and the associated benefits of increasing the diversity to its performance for a single target and two closely spaced targets, but also show that a system with diversity can perform worse than that of a phased array system due to the directional transmit beamforming gain available to the phased array.
