Abstract
This paper presents the analysis and design of a sliding mode controller for buck converters operating in discontinuous conduction mode. An adaptive hysteresis band control scheme is proposed to tightly regulate the output voltage under line and load variations. The proposed method can be employed for other dc-dc converters, and therefore the operation range of sliding mode controllers for dc-dc converters can be extended from continuous conduction mode to discontinuous conduction mode. Simulation results are provided to verify the proposed technique.
