  • Abstract
Identifying the statistical characteristics of the received signal in wireless communications plays an important role in the design of different functions of the overall communications system. We demonstrate here that the density of the overall received signal, in multipath fading channels, deviates from the Gaussian, which is traditionally assumed. Using Edgeworth series expansion we provide explicit expressions in calculating this density and we identify the parameters which cause the deviation of this density from Gaussianity. We further provide a few examples illustrating under what conditions the Gaussianity of the overall received signal fails or resumes.
