Abstract
The permanent magnet (PM) generator direct-driven by wind turbine has the advantages of high efficiency, simple structure and reliable operation. How to improve the performance and operation reliability, reduce the cost of the machine by proper choice of the phase number is an important problem to be solved for the design of a direct-driven PM wind generator. In the paper, the characteristics of a 1.5 MW permanent magnet generator directly driven by wind turbine with low speed, large poles and big volume are analyzed based on circuit-field coupled finite element method. Under the same volume, performance of multi-phase permanent magnet generator is compared and analyzed by redundancy technology during one or more stator winding open-circuit situation.
