Abstract
The performance of wireless optical communication (WOC) systems is affected by transmitter sway. In this paper, we investigate the transmitter equipped with a diffraction limited circular aperture which is uniformly illuminated and non-obscured. We establish the performance model of transmitter sway and develop efficient solving strategies. We show that the model can be formulated as an optimization problem in terms of the transmitter power, wavelength, and bit error probability. The feasibility of using variable wavelength relies on the quantum cascade laser (QCL) technology. The technical challenges raised from modeling and solving the problem include the analytical and numerical treatments for the improper integrals of the Bessel functions coupled with the erfc function.
