Abstract
An adaptive finite impulse response (FIR) filter is presented that has the ability to compensate for faults in the adaptive coefficients. The fault tolerance is provided by a transform domain adaptive filter which is connected in parallel with the time domain adaptive filter. It is shown that a transform always exists that allows the new structure to tolerate any N coefficient faults, where N is the filter order. The convergence characteristics of the adaptive structure in the fault-free case are also discussed
