Abstract
The National Fire Protection Association promulgates over 2000 national codes and standards that are used world-wide for the application of facility and safety concerns. IEEE has representation on several, and among them is NFPA 70B. It is intended for industrial and commercial applications, but others can also find useful information for similar equipment. It can also be used in conjunction with NFPA 70E and OSHA to promote personnel safety by correctly maintaining electrical equipment Reports on technical committee activities are made to the Standards Coordinating Council 18 of IEEE, interfaces directly with IEEE Standard 902-1998 "Maintenance, Operations and Safely" and with any of the other IEEE Color Books where maintenance issues are a concern. The following will provide a brief history of the document, a review of the present version, and highlight some of the topics of interest in the 2006 edition.
