Abstract
In this paper, to suppress the surface wave in dielectric substrate novel soft surface structure is proposed. In case of microstrip patch antenna design with finite ground plane, most of the backward radiation is induced due to surface waves which flow through the ground plane. By using the proposed soft surface structure, backward radiation power of a microstrip patch antenna is reduced -7 dBi compare to a conventional microstrip patch antenna without a soft surface.
