Abstract
Increasing load requires more power transferred from distant plants. However, it is difficult to construct more power transmission lines to meet such load demand because of the limits of right of way (ROW). As a result, the Northeast China Electric Power Group plans to install thyristor controlled series compensation (TCSC) in the Yimin-Fengtun 500 kV transmission system. Research work involving system analyses is undertaken in the Electric Power Research Institute. This paper discusses several aspects of theory and engineering studies and present some useful results for further studies. These studies include steady-state and transient stability analyses, technology-economy comparisons and controller design
