Abstract
Semantic Web organizes voluminous data on Internet in a machine-understandable manner, which satisfies the continuously increasing requirements on data interoperation. In the context of Semantic Web, Ontology and RDF statements are widely used as a standard to describe semantic information of data. However, currently most of the web applications employ XML as a data media. XML can only describe the structure of the data, rather than the meaning of the data. Thus, it is critical to turn XML into RDF statements which can be understood by Semantic Web. This paper proposes an approach for automatic ontology extraction and transformation from XML to RDF via XML Schema, namely, automatic XML semantic extraction. Meanwhile, it illustrates how to use the algorithm by an example in the field of Mobile Data Exchange. The result of the experiment shows that this approach is well fit for most of XML data on the current web.
