Abstract
In this paper, a new optimal controller for intelligent vehicle (IV) headway distance is designed. Firstly, the configuration of the headway control system is designed and the transfer function for the speed regulating system is obtained by means of the system identification. Secondly, the kinematics analysis of relative motion of the headway control system is performed. Then the mathematical model of the headway control system is established by integration of the kinematics characteristic and the transfer function. In the end, an optimal regulator based on state feedback is designed to realize constant headway time control. Experimental and simulation results prove its validity.
