Abstract
We report on a first 40 Gbit/s TDM (4×10 Gbit/s OTDM) field fiber transmission test performed over 111 km of standard single mode fiber (G.652) installed in the Stuttgart area. Nearly penalty free transmission (<1 dB vs. back-to-back) was achieved for a bit-error-ratio of BER<1×10-11 (223-1 PRBS). A system penalty of 2 dB occurred for a mismatch of dispersion compensation length of 1.0 km (@BER=10-9). No system degradation due to PMD (mean PMD 0.2 ps/√km) was observed
