Abstract
In this paper, a new approach is proposed to analyze packet reservation multiple access (PRMA) protocols that integrate voice and buffered data users. Unlike the available analysis methods, the system state information is carried by the state equilibrium probabilities. As a result, the classical queueing theory results are used to analyze the behaviour of both voice users and data users which have a finite buffer capacity. Compared to equilibrium point analysis (EPA) or Markov analysis, the proposed method is much simpler and therefore can be applied to systems with greater complexity
