Abstract
A survey of international wireless operators and power engineers confirms that remote wireless sites experience recurring problems with lightning surges and temporary overvoltages (including swells). There is considerable confusion regarding the difference between these power disturbances and their effect on rectifiers and other loads. This paper presents survey findings from the global wireless industry on surge/overvoltage power disturbances, and recommends design criteria for improving the reliability and uptime of wireless facilities
