  • Abstract
This paper addresses important issues to be considered when writing specifications to procure generator stator coils. It should be understood, however, that no specification can be written with enough detail to guarantee a quality set of stator coils. The reputation of the supplier, and his consistent performance over many, many years, supersedes any specification details. Four major topics are considered: design, manufacturing, factory testing, implementation (installation and testing). Each of these topics is discussed, based on a review of specifications found in the industry, and based on the author´s company experience in each of these four areas. The discussion focuses primarily on high voltage, conventionally cooled, steam turbine-generator stator coils. An emphasis is placed on primary issues, with a bent towards identifying what is important in a specification and what is not
