  • Abstract
    This paper sketches a method for predicting pilot-autopilot interaction difficulties on modern airliners. It is a continuation to a series of other papers dedicated to the study of the cognitive complexity of pilot-mode interaction (Javaux, 1997; and in particular Javaux, 1998). A model is proposed, and a method for predicting the difficulties is derived. The impact of the structural and functional properties of the autopilot on the difficulties is investigated in particular. This research is conducted and validated on the B737-EFIS
