Abstract
The simulated bit error rate (BER) performance of the downlink of a W-CDMA system, which uses space and path diversity techniques over a Rayleigh fading multipath channel, is evaluated. A RAKE tap selection scheme exploiting periodically inserted pilot symbols is presented and a threshold is utilized to select the strongest paths for maximal ratio combining (MRC) RAKE combination. The simulation results show that the proposed simple scheme works well in multipath fading channels
