Abstract
A total of 17 housing units at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia are monitored for their monthly electric energy consumption over a period of about five years. The annual average total electric energy consumption for 4, 3, 2, and 1 bedroom housing units is 193, 208, 217, and 224 kWh/m2 respectively. The trends of electric energy consumption in housing units having same construction and design and located in the same area are generally the same but the amount of energy consumption in a month or over the year vary from one another. On average, the air-conditioning energy accounts for about 73% of the total energy consumed in the studied housing units
