Abstract
The prototype development of a digital spirometer is described in this paper. A hot-wire sensor is used to detect the gas flow rate. The spirometric information is analyzed by algorithms, which are recommended by the American Thoracic Society (ATS) and implemented by using the LabVIEW program. The experimental system includes a hot-wire sensor, a single chip microprocessor (80C196KC) and a LCD display for portable instrument prototype. Test results are presented for both calibration curve and parameters of pulmonary functions
