Abstract
High resolution electroencephalography (HREEG) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) technologies may complement each other for the study of human brain functions in that HREEG presents excellent temporal (milliseconds) and gross spatial (centimeters) resolution, and fMRI has poor time (seconds) and high spatial (millimeters) resolution. In this study, cortical sources of human movement-related potentials were modeled using fMRI data as a constraint for linear inverse source estimation from highly sampled (128 channels) EEG data. Linear inverse source estimation from the only EEG data was used as a reference. fMRI constraint increased remarkably spatial detail of the modeled cortical sources. This indicates that integration of HREEG and fMRI data may be very useful to satisfactorily localize cortical sources of movement-related potentials
