Abstract
Since 1996 the simulator ARISTO has been used for operator training at Swedish National Grid (Svenska Kraftnat). A detailed model is used for the Swedish main grid. The simulator is unique as transient stability is simulated continuously at about real time speed. Not only that, the simulation proves to be extremely robust during abnormal operating conditions. By using ARISTO, the operators have gained a better understanding of the phenomena that may cause limitations and problems to power transmission. Realistic role plays have taken place to train restoration after black-outs and `normal´ disturbances
