Abstract
The conceptions of basic product unit, product block and primitive mapping are presented, and the composing and assembly relationships between basic product unit and product block are introduced. Combined with primitive mapping, driven approach for knowledge-based product design is proposed. Under the guidance of knowledge, design information is automatically transferred from the conceptual design to structural design. Via product constraint relationship and design experience mining, product major design parameters and dimensions are acquired. Therefore a knowledge-based driven approach for product design is realized. A Knowledge-based product design system is developed, along with application in hot runner design, which demonstrates that the approach can effectively improve the efficiency of product development
