Abstract
The beam injection line from the Alternating Gradient Synchrotron (AGS) to the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) transports proton and heavy ion bunches. This line and the RHIC first sextant currently contain the following complement of beam instrumentation: stripline position monitors, ionization loss monitors, video profile monitors, and commercial current transformers. Over several years, these systems have been designed and bench tested to assure a desired performance level. Using data from laboratory tests and the recent single pass beam tests, attained performance is reported. Finally, experience from the beam based tests is applied to the design criteria for the future collider ring instrumentation
