  • Abstract
Electromagnetic power deposition patterns in lossy simplified biological tissue models as a function of frequency are presented, along with a focusing method that constrains surface power. The size limitations and source distributions for heating with high spatial resolution patterns are derived. Using conductivity and permeability data for muscle tissue as a function of frequency, in conjunction with near-field focusing, the surface phase and amplitude functions that give the best power deposition patterns can be derived. The data establish the ideal capabilities for deep microwave hyperthermia as a cancer treatment modality.<>
