Abstract
Summary for only given, as follows. The 2004 International Conference on Parallel Processing is in its 33rd year. If parallel processing has been a small, individual research area in its early days, after a third of a century it has permeated almost every conceivable aspect of computing and its applications. The 2004 program includes traditional topics, such as computer architecture, embedded systems, operating systems, compilers, tools, programming methodologies, performance evaluation, algorithms, and applications. It also contains a growing range of topic areas that deal with parallelism in an increasingly internetworked world, such as network services, wireless systems, peer-to-peer technology, cluster and grid computing. ICPP2004 has received 190 original paper submissions, presenting novel research contributions in the above areas. Each paper has been reviewed by three or more referees. Based on these reviews, the Program committee has selected 65 papers to be presented at the conference and to be included in these proceedings. In addition to the paper presentations, the conference program features three keynote speakers: Mark Hill, Andrew Chien, and Wolfgang Giloi. Furthermore, a panel discussion on "Grids: Hype, Substance, or Renaissance?" is moderated by Wu-chun Feng. Complementing the conference program, there are a number of workshops on emerging topics, the papers of which are compiled in a separate volume. A large number of people have contributed to the success of ICPP 2004. Their names and functions are many and are listed on the following pages. Without their hard volunteer work, the ICPP conference would simply have been impossible.
