  • Abstract
Land-mines may be the most toxic and widespread pollution facing mankind Land-mines are the weapons most consistently dangerous to noncombatants. They kill and maim soldiers and civilians alike, without preference. Many of the civilians killed or injured will be children. They can remain deadly for decades. The need for mine clearance is obvious. Some of the techniques that can be used are outlined and include minebreaching, metal detectors, and dogs. International law on the use of land mines is discussed, as is Swedish research in new technology for clearing mines
