  • Abstract
In this paper, the torsional interactions in the turbine- generator set due to electric arc furnace (EAF) load are presented. For this purpose a generator, two EAFs and a static VAr compensator (SVC) are considered in a power system. Different stages of EAF operation are modeled. At first stage the direct reduced iron ( DRI) and scrap are being melted and EAF is modeled as a pulsing load. At second stage that is called quiet melting, all the scraps have changed to melted material and distortion in EAF quantities is reduced. A nonlinear model which is very close to EAF actual behavior is considered for this stage. Since two EAFs are used, there are three different states for generator. All of these states are simulated with PSCAD. At last the effect of SVC in different states on turbines shaft is investigated.
