  • Abstract
    We present a simple method of constructing maximally flat halfband filters based on normalized incomplete beta functions which can easily be used to construct orthonormal compactly supported wavelets. We show how the halfband beta filters can be appropriately factored to yield linear phase and conjugate quadrature filters for use in exact reconstruction subband coders. The linear phase solutions provide finite impulse response filters with simple coefficients which can be easily generated for large order filters. The CQF solutions are shown to be the same as the wavelet solutions obtained by Daubechies
