Abstract
A method has been devised to analyze a multilayer electrically thick microstrip antenna excited by a probe. The authors derive the field expression of a horizontal electric dipole located in multilayer media. Assuming the current on the feeding probe is uniform, an integral equation for the patch current is derived. The impedance is obtained using Galerkin´s method. The EMF method is used to obtain the antenna impedance. This method is illustrated by the analysis of a microstrip antenna with an air gap, but can be used to analyze any multilayer microstrip antenna. This method was verified experimentally.<>
