Abstract
Narrow frequency bandwidth antenna is a typical shortcoming for most of the communication devices. Thus, a single radiating element which able to have resonant frequencies covering from 780MHz till 3000MHz with at least VSWR of 2.5:1 is critically needed especially for a mission critical two-way portable radio. A novel patch antenna was designed to cater for this inadequacy. Using one radiating element that gives wide frequency bandwidth, it does not require more individual antenna elements for different resonant frequencies. Also, with the proposed dimension of 55 mm x 130 mm, this antenna design can be easily integrated into the size of a typical two-way portable radio.
