Abstract
There have been two routes by which compliance to the EMC Directive could be demonstrated for telecommunications equipment. These were by using the Generic Standards or by the use of a Technical Construction File. This position is set to change with the publication of product specific standards which will take precedence over the Generic Standards. Designers and manufacturers need to be aware of the significance of the product standards to their design and manufacturing procedures. The author has outlined some examples of product standards that will effect the means by which compliance to the EMC Directive can be claimed for telecommunication equipment. A practical example for compliance to one such product standard, has been presented
