Abstract
Excellent high-torque capabilities of the permanent-magnet brushless direct-current (PM BLDC) drives make them suitable for direct-drive applications. And, together with the advantages of small size, low inertia, quick response and accurate speed control, the PM BLDC makes it very suitable for applications in electrical vehicles. However, torque pulsation surfaces when conventional current controller is used. Hence, in this paper, a strategy for torque control of five phase PM BLDC direct driven wheel motor drive based on the variable structure strategy (VSS) is proposed. Simulation and experimental results are presented in support of the proposed control algorithm.
