Abstract
The paper presents the ALCA (asymmetric link collision avoidance) protocol, which was designed to deal with a known deficiency of basic schemes for power control in IEEE 802.11 ad hoc networks. The performance of ALCA is investigated and results indicate that ALCA outperforms a known solution to the problem while being a considerably less complex solution.
