  • Abstract
The complex architecture of conifer species affects the radiation distribution processes and therefore the shape of the BRDF. The strongest phenomenon is the hot spot which influences the whole directional signature. The GHOST (G and HOt SpoT) model simulates the directional reflectance by reproducing the hot spot peak and taking into account the canopy architecture through the expression of the G-function. The model is inverted against POLDER data acquired at various spatial scale resolutions over the BOREAS experiment sites. The innovation of the inversion method is based upon the use of data sets in the angular domain of predominant influence of the single scattering albedo, the effective LAI and the architectural parameters
