Abstract
NAND Flash is widely used as the storage media in embedded systems. In order to apply FAT file system in embedded systems which take NAND Flash as its storage media, we design and implement the Flash intermediate conversion layer (ICL) based on an analysis of the characteristics of the Flash. In the Flash intermediate conversion layer, the ability of bad block management is improved by dynamically increasing reserved blocks; the data writing procedure is also improved, which consequently spares the use of exchange block management modules, reduces copy times, and improves the writing speed; The critical data storage area is designed to improve the storage reliability and loading speed of data. The result of applying it to the USB1.0 and USB2.0 storage devices shows that the intermediate conversion layer provides sound support of the FAT file system and increases the access speed of storage devices.
