Abstract
This research investigated transmission control optimization in aeronautical telecommunication networks (ATNs). To address this optimization problem, a theoretical framework is proposed. Firstly, channel features and channel capacity are studied. Based on that, four channel models are designed to capture ATN network features. Secondly, the end-to-end transmission control problem is defined as matching sending rate with available bandwidth. Within this framework, this paper illustrated the benefit of using performance enhancing proxies (PEP) and priority-based methods. Moreover, the theoretical framework provides guidelines for improving ATN network performance. For example, we recommend to conduct cross-layer optimization and to share information among correlated TCP sessions.
