Abstract
An extended Kalman filter (EKF) was used to estimate the values of the parameters of a simple electrical model of the cardiovascular system. Left ventricular function was modeled as a 3 parameter time-varying capacitance and the systemic circulation was modeled with a Windkessel-type circuit. Independent parameters estimates can be obtained during the ejection and filling phases, and the same estimator can be used with different combinations of measurements. Preliminary performance evaluations using data from a simulation of the cardiovascular system are described
