Abstract
We present a framework which simplifies the overall network dimensioning process in a multi-service environment. We introduce the concept of a three-way decomposition of the network by (1) geography; (2) switching and transmission layers; and (3) service class. We present a theoretical formulation of the decomposition approach and also propose a heuristic. The approach is completely general and is based on service specific networks which could be based on different packet and circuit technologies
