Abstract
The focus of this paper is on the application of nonlinear blackbox identification techniques to the modeling of magnetorheological fluid dampers (MRD), a new family of devices devoted to solving a wide range of structural control problems. In the following, we first give in Section 1 a brief introduction to the current status and practice in civil engineering structural control. Then in Section 2, the guidelines for nonlinear blackbox modeling will be presented in a review manner. Following this the implementation of the identification algorithm, along with the detailed experimental results, will be given in Section 3. Finally in Section 4, we will discuss the generality of our approach by listing two interesting case studies
