Abstract
The paper deals with a fully integrated system, which allows management and control of transmission equipment (mainly microwave line-of-sight tactical multichannel radios and tactical troposcatter stations), from a standard ruggedized 486 PC located anywhere in a tactical area network. This management system does not need any other equipment than the radios themselves. As a matter of fact, a secure network protocol is implemented in a small board included in every radio (line-of-sight or troposcatter): orders and alarms between radios and the management center use an independent “parallel” flood search network. The same 486 PC has other facilities to help for planning phase definition and network deployment: visualization of digital terrain, of the network and of path profile, link budget calculation and frequency plan allocation
